Tsum Valley Trek

  • 20 Days
  • Guest: 2+

Overview

One of Nepal’s truly remote areas, Tsum Valley lies in the north of Ghorka district, an area populated by Tibetan descendants, whose ancient arts and culture are on display in the massive stone chortens and carved mani walls that line the trails. This secluded valley, considered a site of sacred pilgrimage, is surrounded by the peaks of Ganesh Himal, Himal Chuli, Boudha Himal, and Sringi Himal. This area was restricted to foreigners until 2008, resulting in trails that are currently pristine and a real “off the beaten path” appeal. The remoteness of this mysterious valley has aided in preserving the unique cultural practices (such as polyandry, in which all of a family’s brothers are married to a single wife) of a people who have remained largely in isolation to this day. This distinct culture, the stunning valley scenery, and the remoteness of this special place are what make trekking through Tsum Valley an unforgettable journey.

Package Highlights:

Trekking to Tsum Valley is considered a moderate trip, with adequate time for acclimatization via a gradual ascent to the highest elevation. Expect an average 6 – 8 hours of walking each day. Best seasons to do this trek are Autumn (Aug – Nov) and Spring (March – May). Snowfall and excessive cold may discourage trekkers during the winter months, and heavy rains can be expected during the monsoon (Jun – mid August).
