Dolpo Rara – Jumla Trek

  • 16 Days
  • Guest: 2+

Overview

Rara Lake is the largest of Nepal’s lakes. Located in the serenity of the isolated Dolpo region, its shores are majestic in their unspoiled appeal. The magic feeling of visiting this virgin area will accompany us on this journey, along with the best scenery in northwestern Nepal. The moderate trek from Jumla to Rara lake will include glimpses into cultures and scenery much different from the rest of Nepal. We’ll cross a wilderness of mountain meadows and forests of pine, spruce, and juniper dotted with remote and isolated settlements. Along a backdrop of snow-capped mountain ranges, we’ll pass over several 3000 meter ridges on our way to Rara National Park, where we’ll explore the pristine natural surroundings of Rara lake.

Trip Note

This trek remains at relatively low altitudes and the grades can be considered moderate, the most challenging stretch being the approach to Ghurchi Lagna at 3450 meters. 6 – 8 of walking daily can be expected. Best seasons to do this trek are Autumn (Aug – Nov) and Spring (March – May). Snowfall and excessive cold may discourage trekkers during the winter months, and heavy rains can be expected during the monsoon (Jun – mid August).
