Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu.
You will be greeted at the airport by a representative from Outdoor Expeditions and transported to your hotel. Unwind from your flight and meet us in the evening for a welcome dinner at a traditional Nepalese restaurant.
Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing and trip preparations.
Relax for the afternoon and enjoy a guided tour of Kathmandu’s unique attractions. We’ll spend the day exploring several of the city’s most famous cultural landmarks like the sacred Hindu pilgrimage site Pashupatinath on the banks of the Bhagamati, Swayambunath (Monkey Temple), and Bouddhanath, Nepal’s largest and most revered Buddhist stupa. In the evening we’ll meet with your trekking guide and team members for a trip briefing and preparations for the journey.
Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi 1550m/5100ft: 7 hours drive
We depart in the morning for a scenic drive through Nepal’s middle hills along the Trishuli river Syabrubesi via Dhunche.
Day 4: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel 2380m/7830ft: 6 hours walk
The first day of trekking begins along the rolling hillsides on a trail flanking the Langtang Khola. We’ll cross the river several times over suspension bridges as we meander through thick forests and meadows, encountering several rural hamlet along the way.
Day 5: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village 3430m/11253ft: 6 – 7 hours walk
Continuing through the lush forests surrounding river valley, we ascend above the tree line for spectacular views of Langtang Lirung. Cultural gems abound on our journey to Langtang Village as we pass by numerous chortens, prayer wheels, and mani stones carved with sacred mantras.
Day 6: Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa 3870m/12697ft: 4 hours walk
Our trail takes us through scenic meadows where wild yaks graze to the Nepal’s largest mani wall, a fascinating stone structure scrawled with inscriptions and festooned with prayer flags. Beautiful scenery abounds as we approach Kyanjin Gompa, with a Himalayan skyline surrounding us punctuated by glacial formations and rocky icefalls.
Day 7: Ascend to Tserko Ri 5000m/16404ft : 5 – 6 hours walk
We make a steep ascent to the excellent lookout from Tserko Ri this morning for an unforgettable sunrise. From this viewpoint we can see a vast expanse of the Langtang range, including Langtang Lirung, Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji, and the base of the Lirung Glacier. We spend the day enjoying the views and ascend for another evening in Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 8: Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel 2470m/8104ft: 5 – 6 hours walk
Descending among the Langtang range’s majestic peaks into lush forests, we pass through several Tamang villages whose inhabitants share a distinctly Tibetan culture en route to Lama Hotel.
Day 9: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru 2230m/7316ft: 5 – 6 hours walk
We descend to a river crossing through thick juniper forests this morning. Stunning mountain views accompany us throughout the day. Several moderate climbs and descents will bring us to Thulo Syabru.
Day 10: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Shin Gompa 3330m/10925ft: 4 hours walk
A wide trail through oak, hemlock, and rhododendron forests takes us through Dimsa to Shin Gompa, a village known for the local cheese it produces.
Day 11: Trek from Shin Gompa to Gosainkunda 4460m/14632ft: 5 – 6 hours walk
We enter an area today that is known to be a sanctuary for the red panda, one of Nepal’s rare and endangered mammal species. Ascending through pine forests to Gosainkunda, we reach the fantastic surroundings of the beautiful Gosainkunda lakes. We have clear views of the impossibly azure waters mirroring the majestic peaks of the Langtang Himal. Ascend a stunning ridgeline to Gosainkunda.
Day 12: Trek from Gosainkunda across Laurabina La 4609m/15121ft to Gopte 3440m/11286ft: 6 – 8 hours walk
An arduous journey across glacial moraines will take us across the Laurabina La, from where epic views of the surrounding valleys sprawl before us. We pass further through a craggy forested area via Phedi to Gopte.
Day 13: Trek from Gopte to Melamchigaon 2590m/8497ft: 5 – 6 hours walk
Ascending through thick forests we arrive in a dry riverbed and reach Kharka. We ascend from here to Thare Pati, climbing further to a ridge where excellent views of the Jugal region await us. We descend from here to the Melamchi river and make a final ascent to Melamchigaon.
Day 14: Trek from Melamchigaon to Tarke Gyang 2590m/8497ft: 6 hours walk
We enter the Helambu region today, marked by the Sherpa influence in the villages nestled within the valley. We descend to Tarke Gyang, an interesting village typical of Sherpa tradition, home to a monastery we can visit in the evening.
Day 15: Trek from Tarke Gyang to Sermethang 2610m/8563ft: 4 hours walk
Traversing the picturesque Helambu valley, we pass Parachin to Gangyul, a village whose inhabitants practice the Bhutanese national religion of Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism. We take our time to explore the village before the final stretch to Sermethang.
Day 16: Trek from Sermethang to Melamchi Pull Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu: 4 hours walk and 2 hour drive
We pass through a string of Sherpa settlement on our final day of walking to Melamchi Pull Bazaar. From here we board a bus or private van bound for Kathmandu. We’ll reach Kathmandu in the evening and transport you to your hotel. Spend the evening taking care of any last minute shopping or sightseeing after an amazing trip.
Day 17: Depart Kathmandu
