Jiri To Everest Base Camp Trek

  • 19 Days
  • Guest: 2+

Overview

The trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp is one of two routes to the famous spot where Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary stopped before making their legendary ascent of the world’s tallest peak. This is an epic journey through the “rooftop of the world” that is unlike any other on the planet. The length of the journey from Jiri provides trekkers the chance to soak in the majestic scenery at a more relaxed pace, allowing plenty of time for acclimatization. The highlight of this adventure is the absolutely astounding vista from Kalapathar, from where Everest and Mt. Nuptse stand towering among a sea of Himalayan behemoths. Enjoy the hospitality of the rugged Sherpa along the way, and encounter Buddhist monastic life in the world’s highest monasteries at Tengboche and Dingboche. Rewarding those who endure its rigors with unbelievable scenery and adrenaline-fueled moments of supreme self-accomplishment, this trip is sure to satisfy the hunger of those seeking a once-in-a-lifetime challenge that can only be called legendary.

Trip Note:

This trekking route has been chosen with attention to preventing AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) through adequate time for acclimatization via a gradual ascent. With this in mind, know that trekking from Jiri to Everest will prove to be strenuous, involving an average 7 hours daily of walking on varying terrain at high altitudes. The best seasons for this trek are Spring (Mar – May) and Autumn (Sep – Nov), providing for sunny days and cold (but not freezing) nights. Keep in mind that these are obviously the seasons with the most traffic on the trails. The winter and summer seasons will appeal to those who yearn for a more private experience. Winter season (late Dec – Feb) can bring some beautifully crisp days, but the temperatures can be well below freezing at higher altitudes. Summer season (Jun – Jul) is usually doused in monsoon rain, but the vegetation will be exceptionally lush.
