Kanchanjunga Trek

  • 28 Days
  • Guest: 2+

Overview

At 8586m, Kanchanjunga is Nepal’s second tallest mountain, and the third tallest in the world. This is a journey into a remote region with many challenges in store, intended for the serious enthusiast. Located in the far north east of Nepal, next to the borders of Sikkim and Tibet, Kanchenjunga is Nepal’s eastward most 8000m peak. The region boasts over 15 peaks reaching 5000m, 4 of which exceed 8000m. This is a mesmerizing journey, beginning in subtropical lowlands inhabited by cultures like the Sherpa and Limbu, crossing waterfalls and terraced farmlands, into a stark world of commanding peaks and glacial moraines. Most nights during the trek will be spent in tents, and prior trekking experience is highly recommended. This high altitude adventure will take you deep into a remote and wild region of eastern Nepal that has yet to become a mainstream trekking destination.

Trip Note:

This trekking route has been chosen with attention to preventing AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) through adequate time for acclimatization via a gradual ascent. Our itinerary includes several rest days which we will utilize for proper acclimatization. This trip is considered difficult due to extended periods of walking at higher altitudes. Expect 6 – 8 hours daily walking at altitudes above 4000 meters for much of the journey. Those who are in good physical conditioning will enjoy this trek the most. Best seasons to do this trek are Autumn (Aug – Nov) and Spring (March – May). Snowfall and excessive cold may discourage trekkers during the winter months, and heavy rains can be expected during the monsoon (Jun – mid August).
